iPage Daily Backup Service
Should You Pay Extra for the Daily Backup Service?
So you’re considering iPage web hosting and you’re wondering if it’s worth the extra $12.95 a year for the daily backup option. That would depend on how mission critical your website is to you. Ask yourself this, are you making money with your website with affiliate marketing? Do you have a visitor following? Would you suffer in any way if something was hacked, over-written, corrupted or accidentally deleted from your site? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, you need the daily backup service.
Or, picture this – have you ever had your personal computer crash and lost all your emails, documents, passwords to accounts, pictures, games, programs, etc. because you weren’t backing up your system and now they’re gone forever? Sure, a personal computer is not the same as your web hosting account, but the point is, remember that hopeless feeling you had when you lost it all? Most of us only think of doing backups after a disaster happens – locking the barn after the horse got out. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
Manual Backups
You might be thinking that you can just log into your web hosting control panel and do the backups manually, but you won’t. You’ll forget and then one day it will be too late. I have a WordPress plugin that I use on my blogs to do backups, but that only does a backup of the MySQL database, not the external file system. That’s where the daily backup and restore service fits in.
Automatic Daily Backups
With the iPage daily Site Backups and Restore System, recovering lost files is as easy as a few clicks. You can download your backups in a zip file and save them locally on your computer for as long as you want. Backups are also kept on the server for a few days. You’ll be able to pick only the files you need for restoration.
What’s Not Included
The daily Backup & Restore System only backs up the file system, not any MySQL databases. So if you’re running WordPress, Joomla, or many of the scripts you may have installed in the iPage control panel from SimpleScripts, you’ll still need to perform your own database backups.
Is It Worth It?
Yes! Even if you don’t pay for it now, you can always add the service later on, but do it before it’s too late.
