Installing WordPress on iPage
In this tutorial, I will show you exactly how to install WordPress on a domain in your iPage web hosting account using the WordPress installer. There are no WordPress files to upload and no databases to create. The installer does it all. Ready? Let’s go.
Login to your iPage control panel and go to the Website section. Click on the WordPress logo.
Click on the green ‘Install a brand new version’ button in the lower left. It may take a few seconds to get to the next screen.
Step 1: Installation Preferences
Which version of WordPress would you like to install?
Select the most recent version from the top of the list. It’s already select by default.
Where would you like WordPress installed?
All of the domains that you have on your account will appear in the list. There are two sections, with “www” and without ‘www’. Select your domain name from the without www section. Otherwise, people will need to type the www infront of your domain name. That’s soooo 90′s!
Make Your Domain Name Your Blog – If you want to install WordPress in the root of your domain name, that is, if you want your blog to display when people type in your domain name, then leave the field after the domain name blank.
OR…
Put Your Blog In Its Own Folder – In you want to install WordPress into a different folder because you might already have a website on your domain, you can install it in a different folder. Typically, you’d name the folder: blog. If that’s what you want to do, enter a folder name in the field after the domain name. The folder must NOT already exist.
Step 2: Advanced Options
Click the ‘Click here to display’ link.
Give your blog a name. This can always be changed later in the Dashboard: Settings: General section.
Enter a username and password. This will be used to access your blog. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DO NOT check the box on ‘Generate a random Administrator username and password for me’. Reason being, it will generate a username of ‘admin’ and that’s like giving a hacker a key to your house. Make up your own username and password. User a mixture of upper and lowercase letters and a few numbers.
Check the box for ‘Automatically create a new database.’ It’s already checked by default.
Step 3: Plugins and Themes
Uncheck everything that’s checked. These are optional paid plugins and themes. They will still be available on the Plugins page in the Dashboard if you want to activate and use them later on.
Step 4: Legal Information
Check the checkbox on ‘I have read the terms and conditions…”
Click the green ‘Complete’ button.
An “In Progress” page will display and soon a little gas guage showing its progress will show up. You don’t need to stay on the page, but I like to keep an eye on it.
When the installation is complete, both your site and login URL will display, along with your your user name and password. You’ll also receive an email from SimpleScripts with a Subject line of WordPress Access Information.
That’s it!
Happy blogging.
