WordPress Hosting – Who’s most reliable and affordable?
Reliable, Affordable WordPress Hosting
Question: I’m trying to find some cheap WordPress hosting. It HAS to have good customer support and be reliable, not up and down all the time. I already have a host with bad uptime and support that takes forever to answer tickets.
Answer: I know of several web hosting providers that are reliable and pretty much all offer the same account features, including WordPress installation from within the control panel. Pricing varies due to seasonal sales and such, so always check first before you rely on a quoted price. By the way, some of these web hosts only have discount pricing if you click on the links below. Everyone else pays full price. Here’s a brief rundown.
WebHostingHub – This is my #1 choice for the following reasons.
- Fast WordPress Hosting I got a Hub account this summer and I love it. It’s the first hosting I’ve had where I didn’t have to install a bunch of plugins to make it go faster. Their servers are optimize for running WordPress because it’s so database intensive. As soon as you install WordPress and poke around the Dashboard, you’ll immediately notice an increase in speed over what you’re used to. Yea, I know, the blog will be empty at that point, but I kid you not. Every other host I’ve had and the Dashboard’s been slugish, even right out of the box.
- Knowledgeable WordPress Support A lot of providers kinda sorta can help out with WordPress issues, but they don’t really like to get into it. The tech support people at the Hub have WordPress blogs themselves, so they know WordPress inside out and backwards.
- cPanel Control Panel I’ve been using cPanel for years and love it. It has all the tools I need to manage my sites including CRON jobs which I use for some plugins on my blogs. I also make heavy use of the email filters for blocking spam on both the domain level and the entire account level. Speaking of blocking, I can also block spammers by IP address. You know the type, always leaving useless comments on blogs just to get a backlink.
- Reasonably Priced Account prices are right in the ball park as compared to most other hosts.
- A+ Better Business Bureau Rating Between running WordPress at blazing speeds, this one really made up my mind for me. When a hosting company sucks and customers get burned, they run straight to the BBB to get revenge. A company doesn’t get an A+ rating if they’re screw offs.
The other hosts I recommend for WordPress are iPage, HostGator, BlueHost and HostMonster.
iPage uses the vDeck control panel. All the others I mentioned use cPanel. Out of all the hosts, iPage is the cheapest. Plus, they have a sale going on right now for only $2.95 a month. They’ve got a great software installer called SimpleScripts. They also have NO inode limits. That’s the number of files you can host on your account. You’ve gotta watch that. Always check the Terms of Service. Most hosts give you unmetered webspace, but then limit you to the number of files on your account. Here’s a little inode comparison chart I put together.
HostGator is the highest priced, but they’ve got an excellent support team. A lot of super affiliates and website designers use them. But you can save yourself 25% on your first term if you use coupon code: HGFOR25LESS
BlueHost and HostMonster are owned by the same company. I have a BlueHost account and like it a lot. They’ve also got an A+ BBB rating. One of the reasons why I chose them is because they use the SimpleScripts software installer instead of Fantastico. BlueHost, HostMonster and FastDomain are the only cPanel web hosts that I know of that have SimpleScripts. SS has more stuff than Fantastico.
