Which one is better for hosting, BlueHost or SiteBuildIt?
BlueHost vs SiteBuildIt
Question:
I want a website. Which web host is better for hosting? Bluehost or Sitebuildit?
Answer:
SiteBuildIt is not a web host, it’s a “business in a box” type of thing and it’s $299/year. One year of BlueHost web hosting is only $83.40. SBI is geared towards businesses, but seriously, it’s full of “stuff” you don’t need. It’s overwhelmingly complicated. I just wonder how many subscriptions they lose for the simply fact that people don’t know what to do with it once they get it. It’s hypie and over-priced. They want you to follow an “action plan for a month” and it goes on to say, “Use the tools. Really do it (the folks who do not succeed at SBI! are those who do not use it).” Their own website hasn’t had a fresh update in years. It’s all words, words, words. You have to read and study to try and figure out just exactly WTF they’re selling over there.
If you want REAL web hosting without all the bull, then BlueHost is what you need. Here’s the fastest way to get your website online.
- Get a domain name at NameCheap. Use the coupon code on that page.
- Log into your NC control panel and change the DNS Nameservers on your new domain name to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com. That will point them to the BH web servers.
- Then click here to get a BlueHost account. On the signup page, click the radio button that says to use an existing domain name and type in the new domain name you just bought.
- Then wait for the nameservers to resolve to your hosting account. Could be 1/2 hr to a couple of hours. To test it, type your domain name into a browser. When it shows a BlueHost page, you’re ready to build your website.
- Log into your cPanel control panel, use the File Manager to delete the default.html page. That’s the default new account BH page. If you don’t delete it, it will display, not your website, so get rid of it.
- Now you can use any website builder like Dreamweaver or any other publisher to make your site and publish it to your account using your hosting username/password. Or you can use one of the site builders in your BH control panel (not recommended). The easiest and most search engine friendly way is to install WordPress on your account. It’s in the control panel in the Software section in SimpleScripts. Once WordPress is installed, you can change your theme if you like, but the default Twenty Eleven theme is an excellent starting point.
