Which is the best web host for WordPress?
Question: I am trying to decide between WebHostingHub, Dream Host, and Host Gator. Which of those is the simplest, best to use? Also considering Blue Host.
Answer: Let me start with the crappy web hosting company first. That would be DreamHost. As of this writing on October 5, 2011, they have an F rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). They use a custom control panel they wrote themselves. While that doesn’t objectively say anything about its usability or that it will have all the features a webmaster needs, it makes me sceptical because it’s not the industry standard which is the cPanel control panel.
Now for the best web hosting companies. Out of your list that would be…
All three have A+ ratings with the BBB and all three use cPanel. They’re all offer the same unlimited features and they’re priced pretty much the same. All offer a first-term discount.
Best WordPress Hosting
First, some geeky stuff about WordPress. Through my own personal experience, WordPress runs slowly even right out of the box and I find that I need to install a couple of plugins to make it go faster. The most important one is Use Google Libraries. You’ll have a dramatic performance increase no matter which web host you’re on. As your blog gets bigger, you might want to consider a caching plugin because WordPress doesn’t have normal HTML web pages. It dynamically creates a post or page on the fly with a fetch of the data from the database. A caching plugin will actually create an html web page to eliminate the overhead to the database. The one I like is called Quick Cache.
I have tried out many web hosting companies throughout the years and the one I was most pleased with as far as WordPress performance goes is WebHostingHub, which happens to be on your list. I had a couple of WordPress sites on a very slow JustHost account and even with those two plugins that I mentioned, WordPress ran like a slug. I transferred them to a Hub account and immediately noticed faster load-time. Blew me away. WebHostingHub‘s servers are optimized to run WordPress. That means that fetches from the database are going to be faster. Click here to save 28% on your initial term with WebHostingHub.
Easy To Use Web Hosting
Web hosting is like figuring out your DVD player (VCR, if you’re old school). It’s a tech “gadget” and there’s going to be a learning curve, but with the cPanel control panel, everything is logically arranged. If all you want to do is install and run WordPress…
- Log into cPanel
- Scroll down to the Software section
- You’ll find the Fantastico Deluxe 1-click software installer on WebHostingHub and HostGator. BlueHost uses SimpleScripts, instead.
- In the software installer you’ll find WordPress under the blogging software section. Click on it to install it.
- Just fill in a few fields to tell it where to install you’re good to go. It’s that easy.
