Where to go after installing wordpress on hostgator?
Sparking Up WordPress on HostGator
Question:
Bare with me, please- I’m new to all of this. I have just bought hosting through hostgator (domain is goDaddy) I have installed wordpress into the root directory of my hostgator account.. now what the heck am I supposed to do? when I go to mysite.com/wp-admin it gives me a 404.
Answer:
404 means the page wasn’t found.
Go back into cPanel, go back to the WordPress installer and UNINSTALL WordPress. You installed it in the wrong place.
Did you change the DNS nameservers on the domain name at GoDaddy so they point to your HG account? Change them to ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com Then you have to wait about 1/2 hr to a couple of hours for the change to resolve.
Then you have to create an add-on domain in cPanel to add your domain name to your HostGator account.
If you continue to have problems, contact HostGator support. Also, make sure you have no “homepage” file in the root. WordPress installs index.php. Leave that one alone. But if there is one called default.html or index.html, delete it, or at the very least, rename it so it doesn’t load.
