Where can I find the best free (or cheap) web-hosting with best search engine recognition?
Getting Found On The Search Engines
Question: I have had an MSN Groups site up for many years which has always shown up in the first page of Google when searching for subject and names related to the site. I transferred the site over to Multiply, but the search engines do NOT respond!
Is there any free or very cheap hosting that has good search engine recognition? I realize content is key to this, but in my experience, the host also plays a major role.
Answer: The search engines crawls big sites like that very, VERY frequently because they know content is constantly being added. And the reason your site was included for your “subject and names” is because you were using keywords that people were searching on. That’s called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). There’s a lot more to it than that, but title tags and keywords are the driving force behind your web pages.
Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and submit your site in there. Make sure you have a sitemap. When you’re part of a larger site like MSN Groups, that’s the fastest way to get your site indexed.
BlueHost has search engine submission.
