Where can i find a free web hosting service?

Question:  i already have an existing domain name for my site, whereas my domain name would not change if id register to that free web hosting. ‘Coz usually, once you register for a web hosting, you need to transfer your existing domain name and it changes its extension(.com, .net, .org.) to what they only offers like….. .lan, .io, .hub, …………….

Answer:  You seem to be misinformed. You’re talking about free sub-domain hosting. So if your domain name was BobsHotSpot.com and you get free sub-domain hosting, it would be BobsHotSpot.freedomainguys.com That’s not the same thing. In fact, that scenario doesn’t even touch your real .com domain name.

You absolutely do NOT have to transfer your domain name to the web hosting company.  The way some hosts phrase their order page makes you think you do.

Ideally, the order form should say something like “I already have an existing domain name”.  But instead, some say, “I want to transfer an existing domain.”  When they speak of “transfer”, they really mean to transfer the hosting, not the name.

If you transfer the domain name away from your current registrar, you will have to pay another registration fee and you’ll be moving the name to only they know which registrar AND I will just about bet your left nut that you’ll end up paying more than you’re currently paying because they are in the business of making money on domain name registrations.  (For really cheap domain names, use NameCheap.)

Here’s how to do it.

  • Keep you existing domain name at your current registrar.
  • When you find hosting that you can use with your domain name, just change the nameservers on your domain name to point to theirs.

Free Web Hosting = Bad Idea

Now, aside from cost, why would you want free web hosting?  I’m going to give you the same speech I give everyone else that’s looking for free web hosting.  YOU RISK LOSING EVERYTHING ON YOUR WEBSITE WITH FREE HOSTING.  I’ve been there and it’s happened to me.

There is one very popular free service and entices its victims with a self-hosted WordPress blog on a “real hosting account”.  No, it’s not WordPress.com, it’s got 000′s in its name.  Yet I was unable to install WordPress on my own from the control panel like I should be able to.  They had to install it and I had to wait in line just like everyone else.  Finally, I get it installed, build my site, even promote that company for lousy $5 referral fees.  I signed up about 20 people.  Then one day everything was gone.  My site and my referrals and I got NO payout.  And because it was free, THERE WAS NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT!

Free Web Hosting = No Support

Because they give you the web hosting for free, you don’t get customer support.  It’s a nasty trick to get you to upgrade to a paid hosting account.  That means they can steal your account and all the hard work you put into it and all your pleas for help and all your questions about “what happened to my website” will go UNANSWERED because you didn’t play their game and pay to upgrade.
