Answer:  I get all my domain names from NameCheap.  There is a coupon code on that page so you’ll save even more.  Names start at $2.99/year.  You can use the NameCheap coupon code all month long as often as you wish on new names and domain name transfers from other registrars.

There are no setup fees associated with domain names and I’ve never heard of any hidden fees.  But you WILL have to pay a ICANN fee.  There is no getting around it.  All registrars charge it.
