What is the next step after installing WordPress on my host service?
Question:
After using FileZilla to install the WordPress files, what do I do next? I am a real beginner, so step by step. Talk to me like I am 7 years old..LOL.
Answer:
Actually, you didn’t install anything if all you did was upload the files. “Talk to me like I am 7…” LOL I used to say the say thing at work when I didn’t get something. Ok, here goes.
If you have a decent hosting company, WordPress is already on your account via a script installer program.
- Login to your web hosting control panel.
- You don’t mention who your host is so I can’t tell you exactly, but in the control panel look for either a Software section or a Scripts and Add-Ons section.
- In there you should find the script installer. Some of the popular ones are Fantastico, SimpleScripts, Softaculous and QuickInstall.
- Click on it and go to the Blog section. WordPress will be in there.
- Click on WordPress, fill out a couple of fields, verify it and install it. That’s it. The script automatically installs the WordPress software, creates the MySQL database and user.
- There is nothing else to do but get into your Dashboard and start blogging.
But if your host doesn’t have a script installer, here is the link to “Famous 5-Minute install”

If after installing it and you get API errors when trying to go to the WordPress repository to install new themes and plugins, get some decent WordPress hosting. I recommend iPage. They use the SimpleScripts script installer in their easy to use control panel called vDeck. You’ll be able to host unlimited domain names on a single account and stick WordPress blogs on all of them, if you want. Or, can use the super easy Drag n Drop website builder. Here, take a look at it.
