What is the best option for a personal portfolio website?

I am creating a website to showcase my artwork, photography, and flash games that I’ve made. If possible I’d also like to add a blog onto it for news and updates about my work.

**Important: I already have a domain name and hosting (with iPage). I am looking for the best way to actually make the website**

I’ve built a pretty decent website with iWeb, and it will probably work fine, but I’m not sure if there is a better option. Everything is just getting so complicated and cluttered. I don’t know HTML and I’m too busy to learn how to make anything too good with it. I don’t have Dreamweaver and I don’t want to pay for it.

I’ve heard good things about WordPress, but does it only work for blogs? Is there some easy “miracle” solution to make a good website (I’m guessing not, but who knows)?

WordPress is an excellent way to build a website and no, it’s not just for blogging. There are some pretty cool free plugins for photo galleries that would look nice on your homepage to display your work . I use WordPress to build all my sites.

If you want to create a static home page, install a plugin called WP-Sticky. Then create a post for your home page. In the post editor on the right side of the screen, look for the Post Sticky Status widget and tic the Announcement radio button. That will always keep the post on top. Everything below it will be your most recent regular posts.

Just remember, create posts, not pages. Pages are for static content like About, Contact, Privacy, Terms, etc.

Since you already have iPage, just login to the iPage control panel and scroll down to Scripting and Addons and click on the SimpleScripts software installer. The WordPress software is in there. Happy blogging!
