What is the best, cheap web hosting site that runs WordPress fast?

Question:

I need something cheap – less than $ 10/month even after the one or two year promo periods.

It’s for a personal website + blog / video blog. Because of the videos, I’d prefer something with unlimited bandwidth and storage. I know that many sites offer these for a low price, but which loads reasonably quickly and offers good customer support?

I’m seriously considering iPage, but I hear that they run slowly with WordPress. In terms of design, I generally know my way around HTML and CSS, but it would be better if I can just get a point and click site builder.

WordPress will run slow if the servers are slow and are not optimized to run WordPress. Posts in WordPress are not regular HTML website pages. The text on a post is stored in a MySQL database and has to be fetched every time it’s requested. All those database hits create a lot of back and forth traffic (bandwidth). Caching plug-ins can help with the speed by creating static HTML pages of the posts. There is also another plugin called Use Google Libraries that makes WordPress go faster.
