Do I need ‘special’ web hosting to run a video website?
Question: Hi, I want to build my own video streaming site to present my video clips (I’m a videographer). It will be similar to MSN Video or YouTube, where I’ll have various of video categories and users can rate and comment. Right now I have hosting with goDaddy; do I need special hosting to run a video site like this (it was mentioned to me that video streaming software needs to be installed on the server). Thanks in advance for your advice or recommendations.
Answer: First, you need a web hosting plan that actually allows you to even put video files on the web server. Most shared hosting plans don’t allow it. Then you need special software on the server. Depending upon the load and traffic, you might need a dedicated server.
But for starters, both of the following low-cost hosts allow video hosting, more accurately, FFmpeg hosting.
