Web Hosting: Do I have to pay extra for “unlimited domains”?
Question:
For example, FatCow and HostMonster both provide the “unlimited domains” feature as a standard of their hosting plans. They also provide a free domain upon startup. Does this mean that when a person is paying for a standard hosting plan including this feature, they don’t have to pay anything extra to add domains to their account and work with them?
Answer:
You can get your primary domain name for free, but I advise against that. You can read about free domain names here.
You are allowed to host unlimited domains on a single account, buy you have to pay for those names. You can buy the domain names from the web host’s registrar, but don’t because you’ll pay too much, or you can buy them from someplace cheap like with this NameCheap coupon code.
After you buy the domain name, you’ll need to change the DNS nameservers to point to your hosting account. They usually start with nsx, where ns means nameserver, followed by a number. Like this: ns1.yourwebhost.com and ns2.yourwebhost.com. They usually give you two. I’ve seen some give three. Once you buy the domain name and change the nameservers, then you login to your web hosting control panel and create an addon domain for the domain to add it to your hosting account.
If you like FatCow, you’ll love iPage. Same exact plans only cheaper. Plus, iPage has an anytime money back guarantee. FatCow doesn’t.
HostMonster’s a good host, too.
