Web Hosting Confusion About Domain Name and iPage

Question:

Ok, so I currently have a website with chiptech solutions (eydilampasona.com), that i orderd back in 2007. Now, i bought a website from ipage under the same domain. Keep in mind that i never canceled the website from chiptech, wich struck me as odd when ipage let me sing up with a domain that was already in use. I have a website built out in iweb ’09, but when i try to upload it directly or with filezilla, it times out. Any help would be welcome. thanks.

Do you own the domain name and do you have access to its settings at the domain name registrar?  Or, did you accept a free domain name offer from ChipTech?

If you own the domain name, all you have to do is login to you account at the registrar and change the nameservers to the iPage nameservers.  It may take up to 2 hours to resolve to your host.

If it was a free domain name from Chiptech, then you have to get them to transfer the name to you.  They will charge you for the transfer.  Once it’s transferred and you become the registered owner, then you can change the nameservers to point to ipage’s.
