Transfer Domain

Question:

My father has a company, he had a website set up, not much just one page explaining the basics, he had a domain name registered, but now i want to set up the website for him and do it up well with lots of pages, but how do i go about getting the name transferred, is it even possible to do?

Answer:

What you want to do is transfer the web hosting. You can leave the domain name registered right where it is.

You don’t give any details about his current web hosting plan. Is there something wrong with it? Why do you want to switch? Can’t you just expand the site using the current account?

You can transfer to iPage web hosting. Here’s how to do it.

• Click here to sign up for iPage.
• On the order form select ‘Transfer an existing domain” and use his current domain name. You are only transferring hosting, NOT the domain name registrartion.
• Select your hosting plan. Just the basics. Uncheck everything that’s checked down below like backups, or any other extras. You can always add them back on later.)
• You can pay by credit card or PayPal.
• Then check your email inbox for the welcome email from iPage. It will arrive within a few minutes. It contains the username and password for the account.  Example: if you registered ezexample.com, your username will probably be something like ezexamplecom. Notice there is no .com. Took me an entire 1/2 hour to figure that out! lol
• Now you need to point the DNS servers on the domain name to the new iPage account. I use NameCheap for domain names, but maybe your Dad used something like goDaddy or another one. Either way, get to the domain name manager control panel and change the nameservers to ns1.ipage.com and ns2.ipage.com.
• Now you need to add the domain name to your web hosting account and make it the primary domain. Click here for complete instructions for adding a domain name to iPage.
