Looking to host my wordpress blog for free, where can I get free hosting?
Question:
Anyone know any free hosting sites to upload my wordpress blog to?
Answer:
I cannot say this enough times. Do not, do not, do NOT use a free web hosting account for WordPress if you value your blog for any reason. I have seen this two times now. Just yesterday was the second time. I was watching some little $7 “Adsense for 2011 and Beyond” video tutorial. (Don’t bother, it’s nothing new.) The guy making the videos was using free hosting from Byet and he had nothing but problems with WordPress. 000webhost does the exact same thing.
How Free Web Hosting Scams Work
You sign up for a free account, login to the control panel to install WordPress, only to discover it’s “temporarily unavailable for updates”. Bullshit. It will NEVER be active. You have to put in a support ticket to have them install WordPress and wait in line with everyone else. Good luck.
Or, you can download the WordPress software from WordPress.org and upload and install it yourself, which is what the guy in the video tried to do. Good luck with that, too. Once it’s installed, you’ll get API errors when you try to install plugins or themes from the WordPress repository.
So why all the problems? They want to make it as miserable as possible so you upgrade to a paid account.
But wait, it doesn’t stop there. If by chance you get the WordPress software to run correctly then spend weeks blogging your heart out, one day you’ll discover YOUR BLOG IS GONE! Poof! Deleted. Then you contact support to find out WTF and you get no reply. Why? Because you got free hosting and free hosting doesn’t come with support, not even to find out why they deleted it. Like I said, it’s all a scam to get you to upgrade to a paid account and if you don’t they delete the account. Trim the dead wood. Hasta la vista.
If you want decent WordPress hosting, go with WebHostingHub (WordPress runs the best on it), BlueHost or iPage and stop screwing around with free web hosting. If money is an issue, get dirt cheap cPanel hosting at WebHostingPad.
If You REALLY Want Free Web Hosting
If you absolutely want free web hosting there is a reputable company, but you’ll have to buy a domain name from them in exchange for the free hosting. It’s actually not a bad deal. Buying a domain name from them to get the free hosting still works out pretty cheap in the long run and the plans are a decent size. And since you paid for something, they’re not going to delete your account. The name of the free hosting company is DotEasy.
