Looking for Free WordPress Hosting

Question: I’m looking for a free wordpress hosting site that allows plugins.  If not what is the absolute cheapest one. I don’t use WP for business or anything important so I don’t need 6000gb of storage and all kinds of bandwith. I just like WP and its plugins over LiveJournal and the others blogs so I’m looking for one that allows plugins since wordpress.com does not.  thanks

Answer:  You don’t want to go with free WordPress hosting.  Aside from WordPress.com, which, as you already pointed out, doesn’t allow plugins, the only other free WordPress hosting sites I’ve seen don’t have customer support.  Here’s how it works.

• Because it’s free you get limited space and no customer support.
• Allows you to install WordPress.
• If you want more space, you have to upgrade to a paid account.
• So you build up your blog and all’s fine…for a while.
• Then you run into WordPress problems, but because it’s a free account, you don’t have support.
• Then your account disappears because you didn’t upgrade to a paid plan during the trail period.  You’re blog’s gone.
• You attempt to contact customer support, but they don’t answer you because the terms of service state that no free accounts get customer support.  You want support, you have to pay to upgrade.

You said you don’t need a lot of space, but most top web hosting plans have unlimited space.  Doesn’t matter.  They don’t just give you a big chunk of space all at once.  They’re not setting aside and partitioning all that space to you, so nothing’s getting wasted.  It’s a “get it as you need it” type of thing.  Instead of restricting you to x number of megabytes or gigabytes of space and bandwidth, they just set the account to unlimited which means there are no limits.

If you find web hosting with limits, do NOT buy it.  It’s a reseller account.  Any Joe Blow can buy one from a real web hosting company.  It’s rented space and it’s expensive.  Then Joe divides up the space he rented into bare-bones web hosting accounts and sells them to make money.  Only thing is, if you compare Joe’s pricing to a real web hosting plan from a well known company, Joe’s screwing you.  Plus, you don’t know if Joe’s going to be able to make that expensive renewal payment when his term expires so your guess is as good as mine, what happens to all his customers?
