Reliable Domain Registrar with Basic Hosting
Question: I’ve looked at iPage and Site5, but I want to know if they’re reliable. I don’t need fancy hosting. I just want reliability and security.
Answer:
Yes, I have a suggestion. Don’t buy web hosting from a domain name registrar and don’t by domain names from a web hosting company. That one-stop shopping trip may end up costing you more.
Always buy your domain names from a registrar. Use this NameCheap coupon code for cheap domain names and free privacy protection. You can use that coupon code all month long. Works on domain name transfers, too. If you buy a domain name from a web hosting company, you’ll pay more because they are a middleman and have to made a profit. If you accept a free domain name offer when you purchase web hosting, you will NOT own the domain name, they will. Always buy your own domain name.
Always buy your web hosting from a web hosting company, not a domain name registrar. I don’t know what it is, but registrars offering hosting tend to have expensive plans with measly features.
You mentioned a couple of web hosting companies.
iPage is cheaper than Site5 and will give you the reliability and security you want with great customer service. You don’t say what kind of website you’ll be running, but they make a good WordPress host.
Site5 is more expensive, but they’ve got a slick multi-site feature. Let me explain. On hosting plans that allow unlimited domains, when you add on more domains, the add-on domains all use the same control panel that you your primary domain does. If you want to have a separate control panel for each domain, you have to get an expensive reseller account and those accounts come with severe limits on web space and bandwidth. With the Site5 multi-site feature, you get unlimited shared hosting, but you can create a separate control panel for each domain you add. I don’t know of any other hosting company that does that. Some people like that option. It’s something to consider. One other thing Site5 has is buying hosting relative to where you live or where is office is located. They also allow you to select your own hosting location across the U.S. and even overseas. Plus, they’re an eco-friendly green company.
