If I buy a domain name from godaddy.com how do I make it point to my site?
Question:
I’ve always bought domain names from the same site that hosts my site. But if I buy a domain from goDaddy.com, how would I make it go to my website thats hosted on another site? Can you do it from the GoDaddy website? I just want to know if its complicated or not.
Answer:
If you buy a domain name from Godaddy? I’ll assume you haven’t done so already. You can get domain names cheaper at NameCheap. Here is a comparison of NameCheap vs GoDaddy.
But to answer your question, yes you can buy a domain name at any registrar and point it to any web host you like and no, it’s not complicated. Look for something call Nameservers or DNS settings and change them to point to your web server. The web hosting company will give you the nameservers.
After you do that, then on your web hosting account, create an addon domain so it adds that domain to your account. Then you can publish your website to it.
