Question:  I want to know which host site is better Hostgator, or Bluehost. Which is easier and has more features?
My friend and I are thinking of setting up our own website and we’re trying to find the best one.

P.S. If you have any other suggestions for hosts I am open to them.

Answer:

BlueHost and HostGator both run cPanel control panel so they’re pretty much going to have the same set of tools available.  BlueHost has a few more, but nothing that a couple of new webmasters would need.  Although, BlueHost does have a little utility called File Count which tells you how many files are on your account.  That’s important because many hosts monitor that.  Those files are called inodes.  Here’s an explanation of inodes.

Easy Web Hosting

Neither one is any easier than the other, but I do like the way BH combines the administrative side of an account with the web hosting side into one slick interface.  I have a BlueHost account and I like it.  It’s less confusing and that’s another feature a newbie would appreciate.

Pricing

For a 1 year plan with unlimited hosting space and bandwidth that lets you host multiple domain names, BH is cheaper at $6.95/month.  HG wants $7.96/month.

Better Business Bureau Rating

Both companies have an A+ BBB rating.

Eco-Friendly Hosting

HG is eco-friendly because the data center they use buys carbon offsets from a wind energy company.

Guarantee

HG has a 45-day money back guarantee, but BH is twice as long with a 90-day guarantee.

With all things pretty much being the same, I’d personally select BlueHost.

Other Web Hosts

There are two other web hosts you should know about.  You don’t mention what type of site you’ll be making, but WebHostingHub is my preferred host for WordPress.  I have a Hub account and of all the hosting companies I’ve used over the years, the Hub runs WordPress the fastest.  They also have an A+ BBB rating.  They are $6.95/month for a one year term.

The other one is iPage, very popular with beginner webmasters because the vDeck control panel is easy to use.  They also have cheaper pricing at $4.50/month for a one year term with an anytime money-back guarantee.  Yup, they’ll actually refund your unused hosting fees even months down the road.

iPage Affordable Web Hosting with vDeck control panel and SimpleScripts 1-click software installer. Drag-n-drop website builder. Create a site in 10 minutes. Anytime moneyback guarantee.
