I need to verify a website hosting service….hostmonster.com
Question:
I’ve been working on a newer website for my business and it was suggested for hosting services to be used as a startup process for it. I was wondering if anyone here has used Hostmonster.com for their web and how you like the service? I found that they are within a Better Business Bureau’s website Database in one of Utah’s BBB branches, but it shows limited information at this time for they are being checked out still for BBB to provide complete details. Is this service good for ECOMMMERCE ?? I know they are cheaper, but need to know more details of their services other than what the webpage gives you, before I call their tech support with further questions. Only serious replies please and also just asking about Hostmonster.com only right now, thanks!
BTW: I found also on the Better Business Bureau’s website that this web hosting company has had a complaint that has been reported by the company as resolved, but not verified by the client who reported the complaint…
Answer:
I have a BlueHost account and it’s the same company as HostMonster. Yes, you can use it for e-commerce. It’s stable, secure hosting. In the cPanel control panel, the SimpleScripts automated script installer has several free shopping cart apps that you can install.
I don’t experience any downtime. Support is great. Just a couple of weeks ago they notified me that a WordPress theme I upload had a malicious file in it. Unfortunately, I cheaped out and didn’t buy it from the original author. They patched it for me.
You can’t always go by what the BBB site says. I only use it if I’m on the fence about picking a host. Any complaint against a hosting company usually, but not always, is because the customer didn’t read the terms of service and now they’re pissed because they aren’t getting their way. Besides, out of the thousands and thousands of accounts they have, one complaint doesn’t mean a single thing.
Both BH and HM do everything in-house. That includes their support center and data center. There is no outsourcing to other service centers whether it be in the US or abroad.
You said you wanted to know more about their service before you called them. Without knowing what you want to ask them, it’s a little hard trying to give you any more information. Other than this, if you’ve never set up an ecommerce site before, I suggest hiring a website designer in your local area to do it. Any good web designer will be able to upload your site to HostMonster.
WARNING! If you decide to use a website design company, don’t let them talk you into getting a hosting account with them. Just buy it on your own. I’ve heard stories of designers putting their customer accounts on their own web hosting accounts and then when there were problems, the designer would hold the account hostage, and there goes the website!
Both HM and BH have an anytime moneyback guarantee. That means no matter how far into the term you are, they will refund the unused hosting fees on your account should you ever decide to close the account.
My suggestion is to NOT accept the free domain name offer. Buy your domain name for cheap using this NameCheap coupon code. Then just link it to your web hosting account. HM will give you the nameservers for that when you sign up. Just change the DNS nameserver on the domain name at NameCheap to the HM servers. Then login to your HM cPanel control panel and create an add-on domain for the domain name. It will add it to your hosting account.
