I had a website with WordPress and hosting with HostGator… I cancelled the hosting…
Question:
I did not know that I would lose my website… what about the domain name that I purchased can I still use it? Are there any free websites that I can still use the same domain name? And free hosting as well? Are there any sites that are free to setup and allow to post banners and adsense? Thank you to any replies!

What did you think would happen when you cancelled your web hosting with HostGator? You should have done an export, FTP’d your wp-content folder to your hard drive and then canceled.
I’m curious to know why you canceled? HG is a good web hosting company.
Since you bought the name, you own the name. You should still be able to log into your HostGator domain name manager and change the DNS nameservers to another host of your choice. If you have problems, here’s some info on names registered with HostGator.
Don’t use free web hosting or you’ll risk losing that site, too. I had one that gave free accounts for a short period and if you don’t upgrade to a paid account, the deleted the account. Happened to me and many, many others. But they don’t tell you that upfront. And because it was free, it came with no customer support. So when we tried to contact support about our sites, they didn’t reply…because we were free accounts with no support.
