How to find C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts?
Question: Im looking for a file named C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts Can anyone help me find it? Im running vista.
Answer: Wow, what a coincidence. I was just editing mine yesterday. The host file doesn’t have any extension. It’s just plain “hosts” so maybe you mistook it for a folder. If not, you just named the entire full path to it so if you can’t see it, it’s because system files are hidden. I have Vista, too and here’s how to display system files.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- One the menu bar on the far left, click Organize, then Folder and Search Options.
- On the View tab, tic the radio button on Show hidden files and folders.
- Click Apply, then Ok. Bob’s your uncle.
When you edit the hosts file, you MUST use a text editor, but instead of just clicking on the editor to spark it up, you need to right-click on it and Run As Administrator. If you don’t run as admin, you won’t be able to save the file. After you save it, close your browser and restart it so you’ll have the new changes.
Hope this helps.
