How do you start a website on GoDaddy?
Question:
I bought two domains on goDaddy but I don’t understand how to start the sites. I just want to add some photos and text for now but how do I do that? Do have to pay or what? Thanks.
Answer:
Buying a domain name doesn’t = having a website. You have to make your website on a web hosting account. You paid too much if you bought your domain names from GoDaddy, so don’t get taken twice by starting a website there.
I suggest getting a web hosting account from iPage. You’ll first need to link your domain name to a web host so login to your godaddy control panel, go to Domain Management and change the Nameservers to ns1.ipage.com and ns2.ipage.com.
The click here to get a hosting account from iPage. On the order page, since you already have a domain name, select the radio button that says “Transfer an existing domain”. That means your transferring web hosting from another host. (In your case you won’t have one because that new domain name has never been hosted.) I just want to clarify one thing, this transfer does NOT mean that you are transferring your domain registration to them, only web hosting.
You don’t need any of the extras they suggest. Just uncheck them on the order page and only buy the web hosting.
Once your account is setup then you can login to the iPage control panel and use the website builder. Better yet, using the SimpleScripts script installer, install WordPress and make a blog. You can upload your pictures into blog posts.
You’ll be happy with iPage, much happier that at GD. I’m sorry, but I hear nothing but complaints about their confusing control panel and their constant upsells. iPage has a money back guarantee, too. Oh, and they’re eco-friendly green hosting.
