How do you code your website with Bluehost?

Share

Question:  I just signed up for bluehost, but I can’t find the page editor. All I’ve found are Frontpage plugins, web design wizards, etc., but no place that actually allows you to hand-type css/html code and upload it. Where can I find this? Is it in the control panel or somewhere else?

Answer:  You misunderstand what BlueHost is.  It’s web hosting, not webpage designer software.  And you already answered your own question by saying you want to hand-type your own code and “upload” it.  That means you need web design software on your computer.  You design your site and then use the software’s internal website publisher or you can FTP your files to your web server.

BTW, you made an excellent choice by select BH as your hosting company.  They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.  They use the most popular and robust cPanel control panel, but unlike other hosts that use the Fantastico 1-click software installer (still very good), BlueHost uses SimpleScripts.  You’ll find tons of software to install on your site(s) in there.

Why not run a WordPress blog instead of hand coding your site?  Install WordPress on your BlueHost account (you’ll find WordPress in SimpleScripts) and then build your own WordPress themes using a program called Artisteer.  I’ve been using it for over 2 years and I love it.  I completely stopped building HTML sites with Expression Web.  Man, that was a maintenance nightmare.  I love WordPress.
