Accessing Your Domain Name

Question:  I recently signed up for a web host package from ipage. My directories were wiped clean so I dropped the hosting package but kept the rights to my domain. Does anyone know how I would go about accessing that domain once I set up web hosting? There are no files on the site, but I do own the rights to it. I want to set up my own hosting from my computer to test if it works. Any advice or resources provided would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:  Did you purchase the domain name in the iPage control panel?  If so, you should still have access to it via the Domain Manager.  You’d still log into your iPage control panel like normal, you just won’t have any active web hosting stuff in there, only the domain manager.

Also, you cannot set up your own web hosting on your personal computer.  You don’t have the infrastructure for it like web server running the right software, at the very least.  Also, how is that domain name of yours going to resolve to your computer at home without a DNS nameserver?
