How do I transfer a domain name?

Share

Question:  I hosted my domain with JustHost (they are HORRIBLE) and changed to hostgator (so far happy), well justHost said they would release my name after 60 days. Well I am trying to register it and when I try it says that it is unavailable. Does that mean someone else got it? There is no whois info or anything. I am kinda freaking out because it is my online store name. I will email JustHost, but they usually take hours to a day to respond. Any help appreciated!

Answer:  Never, ever, EVER register a domain name with a web hosting company.  Never, ever, EVER accept a free domain offer when you buy a web hosting plan.  The web hosting company will own the name, not you.  ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT IN THE TERMS OF SERVICE BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR A WEB HOSTING ACCOUNT. You’ll have to wait until the 60 days is up because you can’t transfer a name for 60 days after it was registered. ICANN rules, not JustHost. You can’t register it because it’s already owned…by JustHost.

Buy all of your domain names from NameCheap.  That page is continually updated with the latest coupon code.  You can get your domain names for hella cheap.

Good luck with JustHost.  Hope they release your name soon.
