How do I find out my WordPress host to upload a new theme using FTP?

Question:  I don’t have my own domain and I’m just using WordPress’s free blog hosting. How do I get a host number or whatever to put in the FTP, connect, and upload?!

Answer:

The short answer is, you can’t upload anything to WordPress.com.  If you want to use your own themes and plugins, you need a self-hosted WordPress blog.  That means you need to get your own domain name and web hosting.

The best WordPress host is WebHostingHub.  I have an account with them and WordPress is super fast.  WordPress is already available for install from within the cPanel control panel under Software, Fantastico.

Other good WordPress hosts include iPage, BlueHost, and HostGator.  iPage is the cheapest with an easy to use vDeck control panel.  They’ve got a sale going on right now.

You won’t realize the true power of WordPress until you have your own web hosting account.  Just like a cell phone and the saying “there’s an app for that”, there’s a plugin for just about any cool WordPress functionality you might want.  WordPress can do some really amazing things, but not in the free version.
