HostMonster – Free Domain for Life

Question:

When HostMonster says Free Domain 4 Life, does that mean if you left their hosting you can take the domain with you or does it mean it’s free if you stay with their hosting?

Answer:

When you purchase a hosting account from HostMonster, you can get a free domain name.  The “free for life” thing means that as long as you keep your web hosting account with them, you don’t ever have to pay renewals fees on the domain name.  If you cancel your hosting account and request a refund, they’ll deduct $11.95 for the domain name and you get full ownership of the name.   If you close your hosting account without requesting a refund, you forfeit the domain name unless you request transfer of the name to you, in which case you’ll pay $11.95 to get it.  It’s standard practice.
