Does FreeWebs charge for domain name transfer?
Domain Name Transfer
Question:
I have a freewebs website, a free version. I don’t plan on upgrading. Do they charge to transfer the domain name?
Answer:
I see you can buy your own custom domain name from them. Did you buy your own domain name or do you have a sub-domain name with them? If it’s a sub-domain, like example.webs.com, there’s nothing to transfer. But if you bought and own a domain name like example.com, they you can transfer the domain name to another registrar like NameCheap, but yes, there is a charge. freewebs won’t charge you to transfer it, but the registrar you’re transferring it to, will. Use this NameCheap coupon code to get hecka cheap transfers.
However, after looking at their order process, they only let you buy a domain name with a premium account, not a free one. So they answer to your question is no, you cannot transfer because you don’t have a domain name. You have a sub-domain that’s nothing more than a folder on their webs.com domain name.
If you are talking about transferring your freewebs website to another host, you can’t do that. They use proprietary webpage building software.
Web Hosting From iPage
My advice is to get some real web hosting from iPage. They are having a massive sale going on right now with plans as low as $2.95/month. It’s only going to last for a few more days. I don’t know what they’re celebrating, but I’d take advantage of it very quickly. You’l love the easy to use iPage control panel. Believe me, freewebs has nothing like it. You’ll have complete control over your site and the ability to host multiple domain names on the account at no extra charge.
They also have a very easy to use app installer called SimpleScripts with all kinds of free apps to install on your site.
That freewebs site of yours only has 40 meg disk space and a 1/2 GB of bandwidth. Are you kidding me? iPage web hosting plans have unlimited disk space and bandwidth AND you get a free domain name. They’ve got a great drag n drop website builder if you’re only going to have a small site, but I highly recommend installing a WordPress blog. It’s so much easier to maintain and you’ll have tons of space to expand. And WordPress blogs do very well in the search engines.
Some people are lost when they buy web hosting and don’t know what to do next. Click here to see how to install WordPress on iPage. It will show you exactly what to do after you get an account.
