Can someone explain in clear language how to install & setup WordPress on host with cPanel?
Question:
I’m trying to create a one page document for our business on how to install and set up the newest version of WordPress with your own domain where your host uses cPanel and Fantastico. WordPress’s own documentation is too complex, so please don’t just copy and paste that.
Answer:
Luckily, installing WordPress on a web hosting account that uses cPanel and the Fantastico script installer is the easiest.
- Login to your web hosting control panel at yourdomain.com/cpanel
- Scroll to the Software / Services section
- Click on Fantastico De Luxe
- In the left menu under Blogs, click on WordPress
- In the right panel, click the New Installation link
- Installation location:
- Install on domain: Select the domain you want to install WordPress on from the drop-down menu.
- Install in directory: Leave it blank to make your domain name your blog. Or, enter a new folder name for your blog. Ex: blog Then yourdomain.com/blog will be your WP blog.
- Admin access data: This username and password will be used to access the WP Dashboard with Admin privileges, the highest level with full control.
- Admin username
- Admin password
- Basic configuration: These are optional fields and can be changed later from the Dashboard: Settings.
- Admin nickname: Friendly screen name for the Admin
- Admin email: Email address where notifications will be sent. Does not display to public.
- Site name: Your blog’s main title. Appears in the blog’s header area.
- Description: A short catchy tagline for your blog. Appears in the blog’s header area below the site name.
- Click the Install WordPress button
- Click the Finish Installation button after confirming the installation location of the blog.
- The URL to access the WordPress Dashboard to maintain your blog and create posts will display. It’s yourdomain.com/wp-admin or, if you entered a folder name in step #6, yourdomain.com/blog/wp-admin
That’s it! Hope you have a good WordPress host.
Best WordPress Hosting
The best WordPress hosting with cPanel and Fantastico is WebHostingHub. I know this because I’ve tried many hosts over the years and my WordPress blogs run trouble-free on my Hub account. I’ve been using WordPress for many years now and was always disappointed that WordPress ran so slowly. I always thought it was a WordPress thing, but it turned out to be the slow web hosting servers I was on at all those other hosts. When I installed WP on my Hub account, there was a dramatic, I mean a HUGE increase in speed. I noticed it immediately just navigating around the Dashboard.
To super-charge your blog, always install a plugin called Use Google Libraries to increase WordPress performance no matter where you’re hosted. I learned that from a tech on the WordPress forum. It’s also a good idea to install a caching plugin so WP doesn’t have to hit the database to load page content. A caching plugin will create physical pages on the file system to decreases load time.
To install WordPress on WebHostingHub, you can use the exact same steps I outlined above because I logged into my account and did a walk-thru as I typed this.
Happy blogging!
