Moving A Blogger Blog to Self-Hosted WordPress

Question: I have a blog at Blogger.com. I am using my own Domain name, a custom template, and letting Blogger do the hosting. The author of the custom template just released a version for WordPress. Is it now possible to move my blog to WordPress, keeping the same Domain, and using my own host?

If so, please explain how. If not please explain why. Thank you.

Answer:

This is going to involve some shuffling.  I take it you want to actually replace your Blogger installation with a WordPress installation on the same hosting account?

Do a backup of your site before you get started.

Do an export of your Blogger data.  You’ll then need to uninstall the Blogger installation because it will interfere with WordPress.

Install WordPress on your domain.  Login to your WordPress Dashboard, click on Tools -> Import -> choose Blogger and then follow the instructions.

In the Dashboard under Appearance, you can install the custom WordPress theme.

Are you going to get new web hosting?  I recommend using iPage, WebHostingHub, BlueHost, HostGator or HostMonster. WebHostingHub is the fastest WordPress host of that set.  In fact, I just moved another one of my domains over to my Hub account within the last hour.
