BlueHost or HostMonster?

Question:

I am looking for a hosting provider, and I have narrowed it down to Bluehost.com and hostmonster.com

I know they are both owned by the same company, and they both offer very similar features, but I am stuck between choosing these two. Which do you recommend, maybe in accordance with your own experiences?

Thanks!

Answer:

That’s kinda like asking which foot you prefer, the left or right.

Let’s look at a 12 month plan. The features are both the same, so let’s see what’s different about them, instead. Always check the host before buying because they change pricing as if it were underwear. At the time of this post…

HostMonster: $4.95/month for 12 months. 30-day guarantee

BlueHost: $6.95/month for 12 months. Anytime guarantee.

I have a BlueHost account and I have good uptime with it. So I know they have good hosting. However, I have noticed they throttle my account now and then because something’s using more resources than it should. The bad part is, their little chart doesn’t tell me which domain is causing the problems. Some people complain about throttling, but it’s better than getting an automatic suspension… like I did yesterday AGAIN on another host for using too many resources. Throttling slows your site down for a few seconds so it’s not hogging resources from the other users on the server. So I guess I’d rather be throttled than suspended.

I would pick HostMonster over BlueHost simply because of the lower pricing.
