Is BlueHost Any Good?

Question: Hey, looking for people that use Bluehost. Want to know your opinions of it, especially recent ones, because I have seen a dramatic change in approval for Bluehost recently, and I want to know if it is right for me.

Answer:  I have a BlueHost account.  I’ve been with SuperGreen for several years, but SuperGreen service has been going downhill over the last few months.  Sites won’t load, email is erratic.  When I contact support, they say “They’re doing work on the servers.”  Yea, but for months and months?  Or the other one, “Looks ok from our end.  Try deleting your cache.”  Blame it on the cache.  Or when my IP address got block by the server.  They used to be good.  Beats me what happened.

So I got two hosting accounts to spread out my sites.  One from BlueHost and the other from WebHostingHub.  The Hub is by far the superior WordPress host. Right out of the box, WordPress runs blazing fast and even faster with a couple of plugins like Use Google Libraries and WP Super Cache. FTP is also way faster than any other host I’ve used. I’ve also dealt with tech support a few times and they were very helpful with a WordPress issue. Between the two, I’d chose WebHostingHub in a heartbeat.

Both companies have an A+ rating with the BBB and that’s why I trusted them with my sites.

BlueHost does a nice job integrating account management and cPanel control panel.  That confuses people sometimes because they can’t figure out how to get to the web hosting part of their account.  With BlueHost, there is no question where you’re going because everything is clearly labeled.

I’ve experienced no downtime with BH and I’m satisfied with my account.  Haven’t needed to speak with customer support about anything so far, so I can’t say what the techs are like, but with that A+ BBB rating, they’re doing something right.

Like I said, BlueHost uses cPanel, but they have the SimpleScripts software installer instead of Fantastico.  SimpleScripts has lots more stuff.  They’ve got some website builders I haven’t seen before that I want to check out.

A lot of web designers use BH for their clients.  I’m sure they’re not going to risk their own reputation by referring their clients to some crappy host. Check them out.
