Any recommendations for a good web hosting service for my site?

Question:

I’m looking to create a site and have already purchased a domain. The site will be a combination of a blog, a programming tutorial and a download site for open source and purchasable software developed by my friend and me.

I am fairly new to this arena and not exactly sure where to start. I googled “web hosting” and was obviously flooded with hundreds of sites peddling their services. To say the least, it’s a bit daunting to try and sift out the best service. So, what service do you recommend and why?

I would suggest BlueHost for your project.  BH uses cPanel control panel, but it’s a little beefier than other cPanel hosts because it’s geared more for developers.  You’ll not only find MySql, but PostgreSQL.  They also use the SimpleScripts script installer instead of the standard Fantastico.  It’s got more software.

You can point your domain name’s DNS setting to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com
