Any good free wordpress hosting?

Share

Question:  I want to have a WordPress blog, but I’m short on cash right now.  So I just want to know if you know of any good free hosting services for it?

Answer:

Yes, there are some free WordPress hosting sites, but you need to be careful.  If you just want to learn WordPress and play around with it, doing it for free is a start.  But don’t spend a lot of time developing an entire site because “free” has it’s limitations and you also risk losing your site if you violate their terms of service (TOS).  That being said, here are some free hosting options.

Free WordPress Hosting

  • WordPress.com is the home of free WordPress blogging.  What you CAN’T do is upload your own themes and plugins, place ANY kind of advertising or money making ANYTHING on the site unless it’s sanctioned by them. You have to read their TOS so you understand the rules.  If you violate them, they will suspend your account in a heartbeat, no warning whatsoever and you will never get it back.  They ignore all requests so you’ll never be able to get back in to remove the violation.
  • 000webhost – The ONLY reason I mention this is because you need to STAY AWAY from this one.  They say they have free WordPress hosting, but it’s not available in the control panel.  You have to request to have it installed because “they’re working on getting it available to you in the future”.  Then once you have your site up and running, they’ll delete it without even warning you.  I have had it done to me and I’ve heard others say the same thing.  Maybe they have a time limit and if you don’t upgrade to a paid plan within x number of days, they whack your account.  They also offer a $5 reward for referring others and just when you start earning and because they’ll delete your account, there goes all the money you earned.  Been there, done that.  They’re horrible.
  • ByetHost has free hosting.  I’ll be honest, I haven’t tested it so I don’t know if they’ll try to pull anything into getting you to upgrade, but they do have reasonable paid hosting plans and they run cPanel control panel.

Best Paid WordPress Hosting

When you’re ready to buy a real hosting account there are several I highly recommend for running WordPress.

  1. WebHostingHub – The is my fav.  WordPress runs hella fast on their servers, they have good prices, awesome support who actually KNOWS WordPress, cPanel control panel, and an A+ rating with the BBB.  I have an account with them and I’m very pleased with the performance.
  2. iPage – Very popular for WordPress hosting and regular websites.  Low prices, as low as $3.50/month if you buy a multi-year term.  Easy to use vDeck control panel.  No inode limits!  Other hosts limit you to the number of files (inodes) that you can have on your account.  Not these guys.
  3. BlueHost – Highly popular with web designers for their clients.  I have one of these accounts and they put some extra stuff into cPanel that other cPanel hosts don’t have.  Like file count monitoring in the menu so you can see how many files (inodes) you have on your account.  They have a 200,000 limit.  They also have PostgreSQL.  They use SimpleScripts software installer which has more than the usual Fantastico.  A+ rating with the BBB.
  4. HostGator – Highly popular with power users like affiliates.  A little more expensive than the others, but very stable hosting with superior customer support.  Another A+ BBB rated hosting provider.
