Adding Another Domain to Your Hosting Account
Putting More Domains on iPage or HostGator
Question:
If I add another domain is that like a sep site? If I already have an account (web hosting + domain) with iPage or HostGator, if I add another domain is that basically creating a new website that points to a directory in my current website?
Answer:
If you add another domain to your existing web hosting account, it’s called an addon domain.
- If you bought your domain name at your own registrar, you’ll need to change the DNS nameservers to point to your hosting account.
- Then create the addon domain on your hosting account. In HostGator, it’s done in the cPanel control panel in Domains: Addon Domain. In iPage, it’s done in the vDeck control panel in Domain: Domain Pointing Manager.
- It will create a new folder in the root of your account with that domain name. It will also create a redirect so that when you type that addon domain name into a browser, it will redirect to that folder and load the index file so your site comes up.
- You would then publish your website to that domain name, just like you would your primary domain. Or, you can install WordPress onto that new domain.
