Here is what’s available in the Web Site section of the iPage control panel.

.htaccess Editor- Have you even tried to edit the .htaccess file, much less know what it’s even for?  The only time I ever go in there is when I need to do something, have no idea how to do it, Google what I need to do, and then follow some person’s instructions that include editing the .htaccess file and hope their syntax is correct so I don’t jack up access to my site.   The .htaccess Editor doesn’t open the .htaccess file like a text editor would.  Instead, you’re given a list of things you can do in it.  Just click on the item you want to change and you’re presented with data entry fields to make the change.  No coding.  No syntax.  No guessing.  All the geeky stuff is done by the editor, invisible to the user.  Cave man easy.  Here’s what you can do in the editor.

  • Hotlink Protection – Prevent bandwidth theft/leeching by denying linking to specific files.
  • Password Protection – Password protect directories with user access lists.
  • Block IP Addresses- Block individual IP addresses or a block of IP’s from accessing your site.
  • MIME Types – Map file types to file extensions to identify the type of information contained in a file.
  • Custom Error Pages – Substitute pages that you’ve designed for the standard server error messages.
  • Default Pages – Change the standard default file for a directory to a page that you identify instead.
  • URL Redirect – Redirect pages or directories on your site to a different destination.
  • Open Directory Browsing – When a directory is accessed without a file name, an attempt will be made to access the index.html, if present.  ODB allows you to display the contents of the directory instead.

Archive Gateway- This is a feature cPanel doesn’t have.  This slick interface allows you to

  • Uncompress/Unarchive a File
  • Archive a Directory
  • Compress a File

Disk Usage – View your available and allocated disk space on your account.

FTP – Manage FTP users and assign them to specific directories within your account.

File Manager – Pretty much works like the file manager/file explorer on your PC.

FrontPage Extensions- Install/uninstall FrontPage (Expression Web) extensions on domains and sub-domains.

Google Services- Access to Google’s Webmaster Tools, AdWords and AdSense.  Also includes a tool for adding a Google Search Box for custom searches within your domains.

Secure Server – Access any file on your domain via SSL (https).

Server Information – Displays your account’s and server’s configuration like absolute paths, software versions, and installed Perl and Pear modules.

Set Site Editor – Informs you of the options available for building and deploying your website.

SiteLock- A paid subscription service providing transparency to your visitors.  SiteLock verifies your credentials, plus protects small business websites and their customers from identity theft, fraud, malware, spam, viruses and online scams.

View My Website – Lets you view your site.

Visitor Statistics- View Webalizer and AWStats on your domains.

WebSite Creator by CM4all – A free website creator with 100 templates and various color schemes for 9 site pages.  Upgrades are available.

Weebly Drag and Drop Builder- A free website builder using a drag and drop interface.  If you opted for the free domain name when you bought your iPage hosting plan, you’ll have access to Weebly for that domain.  If not, it requires the registration of a new domain name.  Minimum price is $9.95 plus $8.99 for domain privacy.
