Posting a Website With a Register.com Domain Name
Question:
Hi,
I’m helping a friend build a website for her store. She purchased a domain name from register.com. I know how code html but I need to know where to upload my code to so that it appears on her site.
Thanks!
Answer:
Your friend paid WAAAAY too much for a domain name at Register.com. A .com name is $38 and privacy protection is another $11. Are you kidding me? I can get all of that at NameCheap for about $10. 1 and 1 Domain Names is another good place to buy domains. However, the damage has already been done. She can’t get a refund. However, after 60 days, she can transfer the domain name to a cheaper registrar, but I would wait until NO LONGER than 14 days prior to its expiration date otherwise she’ll be locked into another renewal with them. There’s no sense in transferring it now because it will cost another year’s worth of fees. Transfers are just like new registrations so she might as well ride it out. A domain name is just a name, just like a Chevy is a Chevy. The only difference is which dealership has a better price. Ok, lecture over.
All she bought was a domain name. Now she needs a web hosting account. Then she will be able to change the DNS nameservers on her domain name to point to the hosting account. The web host will give her the server names when she signs up. WebHostingHub
is an excellent choice, as is Arvixe and iPage. The in the web hosting control panel, create an addon domain. Then you can begin posting a website.
Also, WebHostingHub and Arvixe have the biggest selection of additional apps that can be installed on her account. You’ll find them in the cPanel control panel. They both use the Softaculous script installer.
