Website Beginner: How Do I Create a Website?
Question:
I want to create a website, and I want to use a software to create it.
1. If I have a host, do I have to pay them for each domain I create?
What If I just want to practice before creating the actual site, where can I go “within the host” to do that?
2. Do I have to register my domain name BEFORE I start working on the website?
I’m a bit confused. I’m looking at goDaddy and website palace. I made an account in GoDaddy, but I’m unsure how to get started.
3. How can I start creating my page with go daddy through coffee shop or something else???
HELP PLEASE… I NEED CLEAR AND PRECISE ANSWERS
Answer:
1) If you have a host, you need to pay for each individual new domain name, but you don’t have to pay extra to build a website for any new domains, PROVIDED you have a hosting plan that allows you to host unlimited domains on one account. You can buy additional domain names at NameCheap for cheap, then change the nameservers on the names to point to your hosting nameservers to link the name to your hosting account.
If you want to just practice, I suggest signing up for a hosting account that offers free domain names. Just make up a junky name that no one will ever see and use it for testing. Here is an article explaining how to use free domain names to do that.
2) Yes, you need to register a domain name before you start working on the site IF you want to publish it to your hosting account. If you’re using a website designer tool on your computer, you can create the site in the software without having registered the domain name, but you won’t be able to publish it on the internet without having a registered domain name.
3) Don’t get godaddy web hosting. It’s seriously expensive and hella confusing. You mentioned “…each domain I create” so if you’re going to be working with multiple domains, godaddy will make you pay extra to do that.
If you’re just starting out, which it sounds like you are, I would keep my expenses low. Always buy your domain names using this NameCheap coupon code. Get super cheap web hosting from WebHostingPad. They won’t raise the rates like other hosting companies do at renewal time. You can also put unlimited domain names on the account without paying extra.
Use WebHostingPad coupon code: FREEDOMAIN to get a free domain name.
You’ll be able to use CoffeeCup to build your sites. But I highly recommend installing WordPress, instead. There’s no coding to do. It’s the easiest and fastest way to get a site online. You can install WordPress in the WHP cPanel control panel in Software / Services within the Fantastico De Luxe script installer.
